Picture of an outfit I dislike

Exercise five

An outfit I dislike

Find a picture of an outfit you dislike and write a story about the person in the picture. Say why you dislike the image and outfit.

Lesson Activity

I love this exercise. It is so revealing! I'm using the same instruction below as you will have used for the 'Find a picture of an outfit you like' image. The exercises have the same format.

However, while they have the same format they are very different.

Finding an outfit that you dislike may bring up all sorts of emotions for you and it's really useful for you to be able to identify them and write them down.

Make sure that you are honest about what you are feeling, and your reaction to the image. You may be uncomfortable when undertaking this lesson, but that's ok. You are identifying areas and emotions in your life that might be quite negative for you. Identify them and get them out on paper.

Tear out the picture from a magazine, photograph it from a book, or download and print from the internet. Look at all aspects of the picture:

the colour of the image - is it soft, bold, artistic, traditional etc

the mood of the image - is it calm, purposeful, luxurious etc

the outfit itself - describe it. As you describe it, write about why you like it.

the person wearing the outfit - how do they appear? What is their hair like, their make up, their overall appearance? Would you like to look like that woman? Or are there certain aspects of that woman that you would like to embody? Or is it something else?

Think: What first caught your eye about this image? Remember to capture how you felt when you first saw it.
